This annual celebration often includes traditional Scottish fare, poetry recitations, and, of course, whisky. What better way to honour the Bard than with some creative Scotch whisky cocktails?

A fitting tribute to the man himself, the Bobby Burns is a sophisticated classic that balances rich Scotch whisky with sweet vermouth and a hint of herbal liqueur.

Ingredients:

  • 50ml blended Scotch whisky (Famous Grouse works great and is available in most supermarkets and off-licenses)

  • 25ml Sweet Vermouth (We prefer Carpano Classico)

  • 7.5ml Bénédictine ( A French herbal liqueur with honey and spiced chocolate notes)

  • 1 dash Angostura Bitters

  • Lemon twist, for garnish

Method:

  1. Add all ingredients to a mixing glass or even a jug with ice.

  2. Stir until well-chilled and strain into a chilled coupe glass.

For a lighter, refreshing option, the Green Apple Highball combines the crispness of green apple with the smoky undertones of Scotch.

Ingredients:

  • 50ml Scotch Whisky (To enhance the smokiness, try a lightly peated whisky like Benromach 10yr)

  • 15ml Green Apple Liqueur (Manzana Verde from Briottet is crisp and fresh)

  • 100ml Soda Water (We prefer Schweppes as it's super fizzy!)

Method:

  1. Fill a highball glass with ice.

  2. Add all ingredients with the soda being added last

  3. Stir gently and serve

This simple yet delightful cocktail is perfect for those who enjoy their whisky with a crisp, modern twist.
